The Association of Junior Leagues International

  • Founded in 1901, before women could vote 

  • 1920’s: Leagues across country created State Public Affairs Committees (SPACs) to influence public welfare policy.

  • 1950’s: Leagues collaborated in the development of educational television and were on the forefront of promoting quality programming for children.

  • 1960’s: Nearly half the Leagues had health and welfare projects, including alcohol programs, adoption services, clinics, convalescent care and hospital services.

  • 1970’s: Leagues expanded their participation in public affairs issues, especially in the areas of child health and juvenile justice.

  • 1980’s: Leagues backed efforts to improve the child welfare system and helped gain passage of the first federal legislation to address domestic violence.

  • 1990’s: 230 Leagues participated in a public awareness campaign to encourage early childhood immunization called “Don’t Wait to Vaccinate” to combat preventable childhood diseases.

  • 2000’s: In 2006, Junior launched an international initiative called Kids in the Kitchen, designed to help communities address the urgent issues surrounding childhood obesity and poor nutrition. 

Junior Leagues of Florida State Public Affairs Committee

The Junior Leagues of Florida State Public Affairs Committee (SPAC) is a non-partisan education and advocacy organization representing 24 Junior Leagues and over 11,000 women statewide. Together, it has monitored legislation and advocated for issues of importance to its members for over 50 years to help improve the lives of Florida women, children, and families.

Our Purpose

The purpose of SPAC is to coordinate public affairs activities of the Junior Leagues of Florida, to assist the Member Leagues in their public affairs programs and to represent the Junior Leagues in Florida at the regional, state and federal level on public affairs issues.
